Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup wild rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 0.5 medium onion
  • 1 large celery stalk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Cutting board and knife

Method

Preparation
  1. Rinse the wild rice thoroughly under cold water and finely chop the onion and celery.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery, then sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Stir in the rinsed wild rice, chicken broth, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
Serving
  1. Fluff the pilaf with a fork before serving warm as a side dish to your favorite main course.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can toast the wild rice in the butter for a few minutes before adding the broth. You can also substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth to make it vegetarian.
