Ingredients

Marinade
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
Stir-fry
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
Sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Equipment

  • medium bowl
  • small bowl
  • large skillet or wok

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch for the sauce.
Cooking
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned on all sides, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Stir-fry the broccoli florets for 3-5 minutes until tender-crisp.
  3. Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over everything and stir constantly until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli, about 1-2 minutes.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For extra spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic and ginger. Adjust soy sauce to taste, considering the sodium content of oyster sauce.
