  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional)

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • spoon

Method

Instructions
  1. Combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and water in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in orange zest, if using.
  5. Let cool to room temperature before serving; the sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Notes

For a smoother sauce, you can briefly blend it with an immersion blender. For a spiced version, add a cinnamon stick or a few cloves during cooking.
