Ingredients
  

Meatloaf Base
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 0.5 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Middle Layer
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Top Layer
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper; mix thoroughly until well combined.
Assembly
  1. Press half of the meat mixture into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan to form the first layer.
  2. Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the first meat layer.
  3. Top the cheese with the remaining meat mixture, gently pressing it down to create the third layer.
Baking and Glazing
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to create the glaze.
  2. Pour the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf in the pan.
  3. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Serving
  1. Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of garlic powder or dried herbs to the meat mixture. Always check the internal temperature of the meatloaf to ensure it is fully cooked for food safety. You can also customize the cheese layer with your favorite variety, such as mozzarella or provolone.
