Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a soft dough forms.
Bake the Cookies
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness, then cut out Halloween shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorate
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar and milk until smooth, adding more milk if needed for desired consistency.
- Divide the icing into separate bowls and tint with different food colorings (orange, black, green).
- Once cookies are completely cool, decorate them with the colored icing and Halloween sprinkles.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a touch of almond extract to the cookie dough. Make sure your butter is truly softened for the best creamy texture. If you don't have Halloween cookie cutters, you can use a knife to cut out spooky shapes manually.
