  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 3 medium ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Add-ins
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Mixing
  1. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas, then stir in the sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  2. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  3. If desired, fold in chocolate chips, nuts, or cinnamon.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  2. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas (with brown spots). You can store leftover banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
