Preparation
- Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into roughly 1-inch cubes.
- Place the potato cubes in a large pot and cover with cold water by about an inch. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
Cooking and Mashing
- Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and simmer until the potatoes are very tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes thoroughly, then return them to the empty pot or a large mixing bowl.
- Add the butter and milk to the hot potatoes, then mash with a potato masher until smooth and creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding garlic powder or fresh chives to your mashed potatoes. You can also adjust the amount of butter and milk to achieve your desired consistency.
