Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 head green cabbage medium-sized
  • 4 strips bacon chopped
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • chopping board

Method

Preparation
  1. First, wash and chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces; set aside.
  2. Then, chop the bacon, onion, and mince the garlic, preparing them for cooking.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy; remove bacon and drain all but 2 tablespoons of grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet with the onions and garlic, then stir to combine.
  5. Pour in the apple cider vinegar, then season the cabbage with salt and pepper.
  6. Cover the skillet and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender-crisp.
  7. Finally, stir the cooked bacon back into the cabbage and serve hot.

Notes

Adjust seasoning to taste. For a vegetarian option, omit bacon and use olive oil instead of bacon fat, adding a touch of smoked paprika for flavor.
