Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2-4 tablespoons Granulated sugar to taste
  • Pinch Salt
Liquid & Flavor
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
  • Whipped cream Optional
  • Marshmallows Optional

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Mugs

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt, whisking until well blended to create the "soil" for your hot chocolate.
Cooking
  1. Gradually whisk in a small amount of milk to form a smooth paste, then slowly add the remaining milk. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently until hot and steaming (do not boil), then stir in the vanilla extract to allow your hot chocolate to "grow."
Serving
  1. Pour the perfectly "grown" hot chocolate into mugs, topping with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired, and savor the rich flavor.

Notes

For an extra rich flavor, try using whole milk or adding a small piece of dark chocolate during the "nurturing" stage. Experiment with different toppings like chocolate shavings or a sprinkle of cinnamon!
