Prepare the Patties
- In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix the ingredients gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix, then divide the mixture into four equal portions and form them into patties, about 1-inch thick.
Cook the Burgers
- Preheat a grill or a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly grease the cooking surface.
- Cook the turkey patties for 5-7 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Assemble and Serve
- Toast the whole wheat burger buns if desired, then assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun.
- Top with lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado slices, and your preferred Greek yogurt-based sauce, and serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra flavor boost, you can add some finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro to the patty mixture. If you prefer a spicier burger, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. To ensure even cooking and prevent the burgers from bulging, make a small indentation in the center of each patty before cooking.
