Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in a skillet until browned, then drain fat. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, and seasonings; simmer for 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
- Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange 3-4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture.
- Top with 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese and 1 cup of meat sauce.
- Repeat layers, then top with remaining noodles, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
Serving
- Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding a dash of red wine to the meat sauce during simmering. If using traditional lasagna noodles, boil them according to package directions before assembling. To prevent sticking, lightly grease your baking dish.
