Basic Hummus Preparation
- In a food processor, combine chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, cumin, and salt.
- Process until smooth, gradually adding cold water until desired consistency is reached.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then transfer to a serving bowl.
Variations
- For Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, add drained roasted red peppers to the food processor with other ingredients.
- For Spicy Sriracha Hummus, incorporate sriracha sauce to taste during blending.
- For Avocado Hummus, blend in ripe avocado and use lime juice instead of lemon.
- For Sun-dried Tomato Hummus, add drained sun-dried tomatoes and dried oregano to the mixture.
Serving Suggestions
- Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika, chopped parsley, red pepper flakes, or fresh basil.
- Serve with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a spread in sandwiches.
Notes
For an even smoother hummus, remove the skins from the chickpeas before blending. Store any leftover hummus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
