Method

Planting Corn
  1. Prepare the soil by mixing in compost and ensuring good drainage; plant corn kernels 1 inch deep and 6-12 inches apart in rows 2-3 feet apart, then water thoroughly.
  2. Maintain consistent moisture, especially during pollination, and hand-pollinate if necessary to ensure good kernel development.
Planting Chiles
  1. Start chile seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost by planting them 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix.
  2. Transplant seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed, spacing them 18-24 inches apart in sunny, well-draining soil.
Planting Herbs
  1. Sow oregano seeds directly into well-drained soil in a sunny spot after the last frost, covering them lightly with soil.
  2. For bay leaves, plant cuttings in a pot with good drainage and keep the soil consistently moist.

Notes

Growing your own ingredients takes time and patience, but the fresh flavors will elevate your pozole. Consider companion planting for pest control and improved growth.
