  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup cold milk

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Whisk
  • Pastry blender or fork
  • Baking sheet
  • Biscuit cutter or knife

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and lightly flour a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Gradually add the cold milk, mixing just until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat or roll it to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  3. Using a biscuit cutter or knife, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until golden brown on top and bottom.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, avoid overworking the dough. You can also brush the tops with melted butter before baking for a golden finish.
