Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter cold, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup Buttermilk cold

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Whisk
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Pastry blender
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • 2-inch round cutter

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Mixing and Baking
  1. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the cold buttermilk, mixing until just combined and a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times, then pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  4. Cut out biscuits using a 2-inch round cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and risen.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, avoid overworking the dough. Serve warm with butter, jam, or gravy.
