Method 1: The "Seed" Packet Approach
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by lightly greasing it.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the dish, then arrange a single layer of uncooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the noodles, then layer with half of any optional cooked ground beef or sausage, and sprinkle with one-third of the mozzarella.
- Repeat the layers: sauce, noodles, remaining ricotta, remaining meat (if using), and another third of the mozzarella.
- Finish with a final layer of sauce, noodles, and the remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes; then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
Method 2: The "Sprout" and Assemble
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Spread a thin layer of béchamel sauce on the bottom of the dish, followed by a layer of no-boil lasagna noodles.
- Layer with a third of the béchamel sauce, half of the Parmesan cheese, and half of any optional fresh spinach.
- Repeat the noodle, béchamel, Parmesan, and spinach layers.
- Finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining béchamel sauce, and the remaining Parmesan cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Allow the lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Method 3: The "Garden" Layering
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking dish by lightly greasing it.
- Spread a thin layer of pesto on the bottom of the dish, then place a single layer of fresh pasta sheets over the pesto.
- Layer with half of the mixed vegetables and half of the crumbled goat cheese.
- Repeat the pasta, vegetables, and goat cheese layers.
- Finish with a final layer of pasta, a thin spread of pesto, and a sprinkle of any remaining goat cheese.
- Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through and the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
- Let the lasagna stand for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
These "growing" methods offer playful and delicious ways to make lasagna. Feel free to customize the fillings and cheeses to your liking. For a richer flavor, consider browning the ground meat or sausage before adding it to Method 1.
