Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grab a 9-inch pie dish; unroll one pie crust and gently fit it into the dish, trimming any excess and setting aside the second crust for later.
Make Filling
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice, tossing everything gently until the apples are evenly coated.
Assemble Pie
- Spoon the apple filling into the pie crust, dot with the small pieces of butter, then top with the second pie crust, crimping the edges to seal and cutting a few slits in the top for venting.
Bake
- Bake the pie for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Cool and Serve
- Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving warm.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. If you prefer a crispier crust, consider brushing the top with an egg wash before baking. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
