Ingredients

Seeds and Soil
  • 1 packet Chili seeds
  • 10 liters Seed starting mix
  • 20 liters Potting soil
Nutrients and Water
  • 500 ml Balanced liquid fertilizer
  • Water as needed

Equipment

  • Seed trays
  • Heating mat
  • Grow lights
  • Pots (various sizes)
  • Stakes (for support)
  • Garden trowel

Method

Starting Seeds
  1. Start chili seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date, planting them 1/4 inch deep in seed starting mix and keeping the soil consistently moist.
  2. Provide warmth with a heating mat and light with grow lights for 12-16 hours daily to encourage germination and strong seedling growth.
Transplanting
  1. Once seedlings have true leaves, transplant them into larger pots filled with potting soil, burying them to the first set of leaves.
  2. Harden off young plants by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over a week before planting them in their final outdoor location after the last frost.
Care and Harvest
  1. Plant chili plants in a sunny spot with well-draining soil, spacing them 18-24 inches apart and supporting taller varieties with stakes.
  2. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, fertilize every 2-4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer, and pick off early flowers to promote stronger plant growth.
  3. Harvest chilies when they reach their desired color and size, cutting them from the plant with a sharp knife or scissors.

Notes

Chili plants thrive in warm, sunny conditions. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Different chili varieties have varying heat levels, so choose according to your preference.
