Preparation
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples, then remove the stems and insert a caramel apple stick into the stem end of each apple.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper and set aside.
Making the Caramel
- In a medium saucepan, melt the unwrapped caramels with the milk over low heat, stirring occasionally until smooth.
- Once melted, remove the caramel from the heat.
Dipping and Cooling
- Dip each apple into the warm caramel, turning to coat evenly, and allow any excess caramel to drip off.
- If desired, roll the caramel-coated apples in your favorite toppings like chopped nuts or sprinkles.
- Place the caramel apples on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or until the caramel is firm.
Notes
For best results, use firm, crisp apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. You can also experiment with different toppings like sea salt, crushed cookies, or shredded coconut.
